Kentucky China Brings Fun and Whimsy to the Table
A new china collection from The Dish celebrating beloved Kentucky landmarks and events will be introduced to Louisville and Lexington this spring by Two Chicks and Company. The black and white china features hand-drawn illustrations of the places and landmarks that make Kentucky and Lexington unique.
Whimsical illustrations of Mammoth Cave, Daniel Boone, Fort Knox and the Ohio River parade around the edges of platters and wine glasses and evoke the spirit of Kentucky. The Kentucky Collection includes illustration of the state capital, bird and flower. Images depicting The Kentucky Derby, “My Old Kentucky Home,” and the fleur-de-lis ensure Kentucky pride is served with every meal.
Savor the images of the Lexington Collection - the Kentucky Horse Park, Keeneland, and the Red Mile- that highlight Lexington as the “Horse Capital of the World.” A basketball, the Festival of the Bluegrass, and the Kentucky Theater stir up emotions of rich traditions. Taste a bit of Lexington’s history with images of the Lexington Cemetery, Waveland, Ashland, and the Mary Todd Lincoln House, amidst the southern charm of Gratz Park and the Lexington Skyline.
Designer Susan Wimberly launched The Dish in 2003 with a collection of Atlanta-themed dinnerware. The debut collection was so popular that collections for other cities, and eventually states, were designed. Wimberly relies on research, visits and conversations with locals to inform her designs. Alison Meyer, a native Kentuckian who currently resides in Nicholasville, Kentucky, advised Susan on the landmark choices for the Lexington and Kentucky Collections. These follow the release of the city of Louisville Collection introduced in 2008.
“Every city and state has special events and landmarks that make it unique, and these are the things depicted on the pieces,” says Wimberly. “The collections are a great way for people to celebrate what they love most about their hometowns and home-states.”
